Mollie Bittner scored the go-ahead run on Libby Neveau's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Spartans tacked on a five-spot in the sixth as they opened their 2019 campaign with an 8-2 victory over Spanish Fort, AL, on Monday, March 25, in Navarre, FL.
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Spartans put up a deuce in the bottom of the inning on Neveau's line-drive home run to left field.
Spanish Fort threatened in the second with two runners on but shortstop Brooke Ellestad gunned out a runner at the plate and Syd Supple fanned the final two. Spanish Fort knotted the score in the third with a two-out, two-run double.
Erica Lenz drew a lead-off walk for the Spartans in the bottom of the fifth and back-to-back bunt singles by Mathena Higgins and Ellestad loaded the bases. With one out, Neveau hit a pop foul down the left field line which was caught for the second out, but Bittner, running for Lenz, scored from third.
Courtney Day led off the ON sixth with her second double of the game and moved to third on Noelle Frank's sacrifice bunt. Day scored on Emma Leib's double. Higgins doubled Leib home and scored on Ellestad's double. Supple capped the five run inning with a two-run bomb over the right field fence.
Ellestad, Day and Higgins had two hits each in the nine-hit Spartan attack.

The top three in the Spartans order went a combined 10-for-12 with seven runs scored to back the five-hit pitching of Brie Gauthier and Ashley Borowitz in Oshkosh North's 9-3 victory over Northview (FL) on Tuesday, March 26, in Navarre, FL.
Brooke Ellestad was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, Syd Supple went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored and Libby Neveau was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
Gauthier allowed one run on four hits over four innings, striking out four, and Borowitz worked the final two innings of the time-limit game, allowing one earned run and one hit.

It took a two-out seven-run top of the seventh inning rally for the Oshkosh North Spartans (7-0) to overtake the host West De Pere Phantoms on Friday, April 5.
The Phantoms answered Spartan runs in the first and second innings with three in the first and one in the second and built a 7-2 lead with a three-run third inning.

Brooke Ellestad, Sydney Supple and Libby Neveau hit back-to-back-to-back homer runs to lead off an eight-run second inning. Erica Lenz had a two-run single and Supple hit a three-run double to cap the frame.
